ABOUT OUR TEENS BJJ PROGRAM
The West Coast Jiu-Jitsu Teens program is specifically designed for adolescents aged 10-14, offering more advanced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training that bridges the gap between children's classes and adult instruction. Our curriculum acknowledges the unique physical and emotional development occurring during these years, providing appropriate challenges while maintaining a safe, supportive learning environment.
Teens learn comprehensive BJJ techniques including positions, transitions, submissions, and escapes with an emphasis on proper form and safety. Our experienced coaches understand adolescent development and create an environment where teens can push their limits while building confidence in their abilities. The program balances technical instruction with practical application, helping students develop both physical skills and strategic thinking.
Parents throughout Perth consistently report positive changes in their teenagers after joining our program: improved focus in school, better communication at home, increased physical activity, and a more positive outlook. Many teens who struggle with traditional team sports find their place in our BJJ community, where individual progress is celebrated and everyone can succeed at their own pace.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
ABOUT TEENS BJJ
Yes. Live training is introduced gradually and always supervised, with an emphasis on control and safety before pace or resistance increases. Coaches closely manage pairings so teens spar with training partners suited to their size and experience.
My teenager has never trained a martial art before, is that okay?
Definitely. Most teens who join us are complete beginners. Classes are structured so newer students learn the fundamentals alongside more experienced teens, and everyone progresses at their own pace.
Can BJJ help my teenager manage stress and anxiety?
Many parents tell us this is exactly why they enrolled their teen. Training gives teenagers a healthy physical outlet, and the discipline of BJJ builds coping skills and resilience that carry over into school and everyday life.
What is the Wednesday "Competitors" class? It's an optional extra session for Teens who want to prepare for BJJ competitions, with a stronger focus on live drilling and technical refinement. It's not compulsory, most students train on the regular weekly schedule.
Is Teens BJJ a good bridge to adult classes?
Yes, that's exactly how it's designed. Teens BJJ introduces the technical depth and training intensity of our adult Gi and No-Gi classes, so students can transition confidently once they're ready.
Does my teenager need their own gi (uniform)?
No, not to start. The $199 joining fee includes a WCJJ BJJ gi and belt, so your teen is ready for their first class without buying anything separately.
How many days a week should my teenager train?
Two classes a week is a great starting point for most teens. Students training for competition, or who want faster progress, often move up to our Unlimited membership.
