TEENS BJJ PROGRAM (AGES 10-14)

BUILDING CONFIDENCE, STRENGTH & CHARACTER THROUGH MARTIAL ARTS THROUGH MARTIAL ARTS

Our Teens program offers a perfect balance of technical Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training and physical conditioning tailored specifically for adolescents. Students learn effective self-defence techniques while developing strength, flexibility and mental fortitude at our Perth academy. Training in a positive, supportive environment helps teens build confidence, manage stress and develop healthy habits that will benefit them throughout life. This program serves as an excellent bridge to our adult classes.

Why Choose Teens BJJ

BUILDS CONFIDENCE & SELF-ESTEEM
The teenage years can be challenging, with social pressures and rapid changes affecting self-image. Our Teens BJJ program at West Coast Jiu-Jitsu Perth provides a structured environment where adolescents achieve measurable progress, overcome challenges, and develop genuine confidence based on real skills and accomplishments. This confidence extends beyond the mats into academic and social situations.
DEVELOPS PHYSICAL FITNESS & BODY AWARENESS
During this crucial developmental period, our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training helps teens develop functional strength, flexibility, coordination and cardiovascular fitness. Unlike team sports that might emphasise specific skills, BJJ provides comprehensive physical development that benefits teens regardless of their natural athletic abilities. Students learn to appreciate their bodies for what they can do rather than how they look.
TEACHES EFFECTIVE STRESS MANAGEMENT
Teenagers face unprecedented levels of stress and anxiety in today's world. Our Perth BJJ academy provides a healthy outlet for releasing tension while teaching practical techniques for managing emotions. Through challenging training and the discipline of martial arts, teens develop resilience and coping mechanisms that serve them well in all areas of life.
FOSTERS POSITIVE PEER RELATIONSHIPS
Our Teens BJJ program creates a supportive community where adolescents form friendships based on mutual respect, shared goals and positive values. Unlike many teen social environments, our Osborne Park academy emphasises cooperation over competition, helping others improve, and respecting differences. These healthy social connections are invaluable during the formative teenage years.
INSTILLS DISCIPLINE & RESPONSIBILITY
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training requires consistent effort, attention to detail and personal accountability, qualities that directly transfer to academic success and personal development. Our structured curriculum and clear expectations help teens develop self-discipline and time management skills while teaching them that meaningful progress comes through dedicated practice.
10-14 YEARS PROGRAM

ABOUT OUR TEENS BJJ PROGRAM

The West Coast Jiu-Jitsu Teens program is specifically designed for adolescents aged 10-14, offering more advanced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training that bridges the gap between children's classes and adult instruction. Our curriculum acknowledges the unique physical and emotional development occurring during these years, providing appropriate challenges while maintaining a safe, supportive learning environment.

Teens learn comprehensive BJJ techniques including positions, transitions, submissions, and escapes with an emphasis on proper form and safety. Our experienced coaches understand adolescent development and create an environment where teens can push their limits while building confidence in their abilities. The program balances technical instruction with practical application, helping students develop both physical skills and strategic thinking.

Parents throughout Perth consistently report positive changes in their teenagers after joining our program: improved focus in school, better communication at home, increased physical activity, and a more positive outlook. Many teens who struggle with traditional team sports find their place in our BJJ community, where individual progress is celebrated and everyone can succeed at their own pace.

We highly recommend West Coast Jiu Jitsu. My son and my husband both train here, and the environment is absolutely amazing.

The coaches are professional, patient, and truly care about each student’s development—both on and off the mats. The kids’ classes build confidence, discipline, and respect, while the adult classes are challenging and welcoming at the same time. I am also starting my BJJ journey with them as it really feels like a family. We’re very grateful to be part of this gym!

WCJJ is such great space! Renan is a fantastic coach, his attention to detail and technique is unmatched. Gabi and Renan have created an amazing community where everyone feels welcomed and appreciated. Both the mixed and female only classes are always very interactive and enjoyable to be in. The recovery facilities are kept immaculate encouraging athletes to take care of their bodies after training, the play room is also equipped with many toys to keep the little ones occupied. I would recommend anyone wanting to learn more Jiu Jitsu skills or even step out of their comfort zone to try a class at WCJJ.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
ABOUT TEENS BJJ

Is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu safe for teenagers, including sparring?
Yes. Live training is introduced gradually and always supervised, with an emphasis on control and safety before pace or resistance increases. Coaches closely manage pairings so teens spar with training partners suited to their size and experience.

My teenager has never trained a martial art before, is that okay?
Definitely. Most teens who join us are complete beginners. Classes are structured so newer students learn the fundamentals alongside more experienced teens, and everyone progresses at their own pace.

Can BJJ help my teenager manage stress and anxiety?
Many parents tell us this is exactly why they enrolled their teen. Training gives teenagers a healthy physical outlet, and the discipline of BJJ builds coping skills and resilience that carry over into school and everyday life.

What is the Wednesday "Competitors" class? It's an optional extra session for Teens who want to prepare for BJJ competitions, with a stronger focus on live drilling and technical refinement. It's not compulsory, most students train on the regular weekly schedule.

Is Teens BJJ a good bridge to adult classes?
Yes, that's exactly how it's designed. Teens BJJ introduces the technical depth and training intensity of our adult Gi and No-Gi classes, so students can transition confidently once they're ready.

Does my teenager need their own gi (uniform)?
No, not to start. The $199 joining fee includes a WCJJ BJJ gi and belt, so your teen is ready for their first class without buying anything separately.

How many days a week should my teenager train?
Two classes a week is a great starting point for most teens. Students training for competition, or who want faster progress, often move up to our Unlimited membership.
